The Federal Defender Program, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia was established in 1973 as a private, not-for-profit Community Defender Organization serving the Northern District of Georgia. We are authorized and funded pursuant to the Criminal Justice Act(“CJA”), 18 U.S.C. § 3006A, et seq. Our office can represent an individual only after we are appointed by the court. This appointment is based on the financial situation of the person charged which is determined by a judge reviewing your financial affidavit. Our office represents defendants who cannot afford counsel before the United States District Court, Northern District of Georgia, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. The Federal Defender Program, Inc., is solely funded by an annual grant from the Administrative Office of the United States Courts in the approximate amount of $22,298,000.
